Leeds is the perfect location for events and conferences. Positioned at the geographical centre of the UK it is within easy reach for delegates travelling from all parts of the country.

Journey times by train from London have been cut to just over two hours while Leeds Bradford International Airport is only eight miles from the city centre. The boom in low cost airlines means delegates can fly in direct from almost 40 destinations.

Leeds has a compact city centre and you can easily walk from end to end in twenty minutes. A free city bus service can take you direct from the railway station to the university precincts, main shopping area, coach and bus station.

Representing almost 100 venues, Conference Leeds offers a choice of city centre, country house and motorway hotels, as well as a range of dedicated training and conference venues.

Major recent events in Leeds include the 2006 conference for the International Association of Women Police, the first national convention of the Chartered Management Institute and the national conference of the Association of Women in Property.

In 2007 a second exhibition hall will open at the Royal Armouries. Uninterrupted sightlines and 27,000 sq ft of floor space, will make it the ideal venue for large exhibitions and conferences for up to 1,000 delegates.

The success of Leeds as a business centre has been the catalyst for major hotel development in recent years, with 23 hotels in the city centre alone and 12 more proposed. These include budget, 3-star, 4-star, luxury, townhouse, chain and independent options.

The Hilton Leeds City is undergoing a £7.5m refurbishment of all its conference rooms and bedrooms and will see a new conference centre opening in Easter 2007. Leeds Marriott is also undertaking major refurbishment at the start of 2007.

For something a bit different, venues include the Thackray Museum, Xscape, Harewood House, Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Wetherby Racecourse, West Yorkshire Playhouse, the National Coal Mining Museum and the Royal Armouries.

Leeds is a favourite destination for conference delegates, with fantastic shopping and a lively, European-style café scene. In the evening delegates can chose from a great range of bars and restaurants, some of the best clubbing outside London, theatre at West Yorkshire Playhouse, or performances by Opera North and Northern Ballet.
